Letter: Lions grateful for successful corn festival

Published:

The Kent Lions Club would like to thank the community for supporting its Seventh Annual Sweet Corn Festival at Beckwith Orchard. This is truly an event that is the result of the time, talent and donations given by so many community members, businesses and organizations to provide the festival for the entire community to enjoy.

We particularly wish to thank our sponsors who make this event possible. Beckwith Orchard allows the Kent Lions to hold this event at the farm at no cost to the Kent Lions Club. Platinum Sponsors are Hometown Bank, the Central Portage County Visitors and Convention Bureau, who make it possible to offer quality entertainment and the Record-Courier for advertising. Woodsy's Music again donated use of the sound equipment. The sausages and hot dogs came from Kirbie's Meats in Stow and the wonderful corn came from Pochedly's Farm in Hiram. Many gifts for our raffle were donated by local businesses such as A Cut Above Salon, Beckwith Orchard, Evelyn Dickerson, Carnaby Street Style, Fresco in Kent, Honey Bee Tea Parties, Home Instead, Acme Fresh Market, McKay Bricker Framing, Kline Honey Bee Farm, KSU Recreation Center, Riverside Wines, Maplecrest Golf Course, and from our crafters, members and friends. Children enjoyed the contests and the prizes made possible by Dairy Queen of Kent, Kent Lanes and Popped of Acorn Alley. We want to thank all of the vendors who rented spaces and offered quality merchandise.

The Lions Club could not provide a wonderful festival if it weren't for all of our volunteers. Members of Delta Gamma Sorority assisted with parking and the food line. Several members of the Kent Jaycees operated the children's contests. Thanks to Melissa Olson for donating her time to run the photo booth and thanks to the Theodore Roosevelt High School Cheerleaders for volunteering to do the wonderful face painting during the festival. Hobby Horse Hill Farm and the Trail Blazers 4-H Club operated the Pony Rides.

Finally, we wish to thank all the people who came out to enjoy the festival and buy food and raffle tickets. Your support enables the Kent Lions to help many local residents with their eye care needs, sponsor a pilot dog and support eye research.
