We would like to thank Record-Courier staff reporter Matthew Merchant for his fine article about the future use of the Mantua Center School. The former school is being re-purposed for use as a community center for the area residents.
Mr. Merchant captured the essence of the community meeting held on November 7. As members of the Utilization Committee for the school, we would like to point out a few additional facts.
1. A complete utilization plan for all available rooms in the school was presented to the community at a meeting nearly a year and a half ago. It was stated at that presentation that it was a "fluid" plan that could be changed to address future needs of the community.
It was not written in stone and since that meeting other uses have been proposed by citizens in the community and the newly formed task force.
2. There are seven restrooms in the building, including fully ADA-compliant (handicapped) restrooms in the annex that will be accessible from the entire building once the elevator is installed.
3. If heating ducts are capped to install the elevator, the ductwork can be rerouted to heat the entire building.
Many community residents are excited about the numerous possible uses of the building and what it means to the Mantua area. The excitement is building as we see additional progress on the elevator.
