The Stan Hywet Goodyear Concert Band will perform at 7 p.m. July 10 in the sanctuary of the Kent United Methodist Church, 1435 E. Main St., in Kent.
The bandis a completely volunteer musical organzation with a lineage dating back to 1919. The band is comprised of approximately 35 musicians of all ages and from all walks of life under the direction of George H. Martin. The organzation is a performing concert band in the tradition of the community bands so popular in the early to mid 20th century.
In the concert, the audience will hear the band perform marches, transcriptions, pop and swing standards as well as contemporary concert band selections. One of the goals of the Stan Hywet Goodyear Concert Band is to expose its members and band audience to as great a variety of music as possible while retaining the old-time "concert in the park" feeling in its performances.
The event is open to the public. A freewill offering will be taken to support the band. Refreshments will be served after the concert in the fellowship hall.
