FINDLAY _ The Kent State wrestling team earned two victories at the JC Penney/Floyd Marshall Duals held at Findlay College Sunday.
The Golden Flashes (9-6) shut out Marquette 52-0, then defeated host Findlay 22-12 to finish the day as the only undefeated squad in the five-team field.
Former area high school standouts Mark Wentz (Streetsboro), Brian Singleton (Crestwood) and Keith Shamblin all recorded pins against Marquette along with freshman heavyweight Jeremy Orsky.
Kent State fell behind 9-2 against host Findlay after Singleton lost a controversial match in overtime at 142 pounds to Al Fuentes, 5-3. But Shamblin ignited the comeback by earning a 6-2 decision over Mike Kotlyn.
The Flashes' upperweight wrestlers took it from there.
Ed Hamway earned a major decision over Craig Scott (13-3) at 167, and Cliff Andres followed suit with a 15-6 win over Brett Kuzinski at 177 to put Kent State on top 13-12.
Former Aurora High School standout Dave Kotora made short work of Brian Scislo at 190, pinning him in 30 seconds to put the Flashes in control. Then Orsky earned a 3-1 overtime win over Jim Joaquin to cap off the victory.
Kent State will wrestle at West Liberty State Tuesday.
