Stow beats Ravenna

The visiting Stow Bulldogs outplayed Ravenna in every phase of the game Tuesday to cruise to a 90-50 Western Reserve Conference South Division victory. The Bulldogs (4-5, 3-1 WRC) shot 53 percent from the field, while the Ravens managed just 32 percent. Stow had a 50-34 rebounding edge, and the Ravens committed 22 turnovers to just 12 for the Bulldogs. "We definitely didn't play as well as we can," said Ravenna coach Mike Cook. "I know we can shoot the ball better than we did. Part of that is due to (Stow's) pressure defense. We were rushing our shots a little bit, and we're dribbling too much instead of passing the ball. "They killed us on the boards and in the post. We just weren't able to keep them from getting the ball inside." Stow's 6-foot-8 senior forward Tim LaFleur was nearly unstoppable inside, tossing in a game-high 29 points and ripping down nine rebounds. "Our plan initially was to establish the inside game," said Stow coach Dave Close. "Tim (LaFleur) has had a hot hand lately, and we wanted to make sure we got him the ball early in the game." The strategy worked, as LaFleur scored 10 first-period points to help the Bulldogs take a 24-13 lead. Ravenna got two within 36-24 after Luke Summers drilled a 3-pointer, but Stow outscored the Ravens 14-2 the rest of the way to take a commanding 50-26 lead at intermission. Ravenna never got any closer than 24 points in the second half. "We need to refocus for Friday, work on keeping the ball out of the post against big guys and shoot the ball better," said Cook. Joining LaFleur in double figures for the Bulldogs were Jake Steuer and Chris Young with 16 and 10 points, respectively. Summers paced Ravenna (4-5, 0-4) with 12 points, while Roy McCollough scored 11 and Damien Fortson added 10. _____ Stow 90, Ravenna 50 (At Ravenna) STOW (90) _ Jake Steuer 6 3-5 16; Matt Racketta 4 0-1 8; Chris Hydeck 0 4-4 4; Tim LaFleur 13 3-6 29; Chris Young 5 0-0 10; David Hasson 1 0-0 3; Mike Pickett 4 1-1 9; Larry Stang 3 0-0 6; Adam Myers 0 0-0 0; Eric Mabie 1 0-0 3; Bill Walko 1 0-0 2.
