Rain washed away all but one match from Monday, forcing those first-round matches to be rescheduled for today.

One of the better battles that took place Tuesday was the men's doubles match, pitting Bob Smith and Doug Wirt against the father/son duo of Austin and Alex Melton.

Paced by some effective serving, Smith and Wirt won a tiebreaker in the second set to win the match 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).

Smith and Wirt will now take on Tim Adkins and Blair Stockley Thursday in a semifinal match.

The Meltons fought off elimination several times and nearly forced a third game. The pair trailed 5-4 and then was down 6-5, with Smith and Wirt serving for match point. After staving off match point and forcing a tiebreaker, the Meltons were unable to come back again, however. Smith and Wirt broke away from a 2-2 deadlock and never looked back.

"We just played steady and didn't make many mistakes; we played our game," said Smith. "Doug's serve helped us. He has a big serve and that helped us a lot. We got a point when we needed one."

This is the second time Smith and Wirt have teamed up at the PC Open. The two also got together during the 1998 Open.
