Record-Courier staff report

The high school football playoff trail continues this week for the Aurora Greenmen and Mogadore Wildcats — and neither team will have to travel far as they look to take another step in their quest for a state championship.

Third-seeded Aurora (11-1) will face No. 4 seed Chardon (10-2) at Twinsburg Tiger Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Friday night for the Division II, Region 5 championship.

The winner of this game will face the winner of the Avon-Toledo Central Catholic contest in the state semifinals on Friday, Nov. 23 at a site to be determined.

No. 1 seed Mogadore (12-0), meanwhile, is headed back to Ravenna’s Gilcrest Field for the second straight week, this time to face sixth-seed Youngstown Christian (9-2) in the Division VI, Region 21 championship game.

The Wildcats defeated Berlin Center Western Reserve 28-7 last Friday night at Gilcrest Field.

Mogadore was eliminated by Youngstown Christian in the first round of the playoffs last year. Friday night’s winner will play either Danville or Newark Catholic in the state semifinals on Friday, Nov. 23 at a site to be determined.
