Record-Courier Staff Report Published:

A rematch with Northern Illinois highlights the Kent State football team's 2013 Mid-American Conference schedule, which was released on Wednesday, though no specific dates or times have been announced yet.

The defending MAC East Division champion Golden Flashes (11-3, 8-0 MAC in 2012) will host the two-time defending MAC champion Huskies (12-2, 8-0), who defeated Kent State 44-37 in double-overtime in the 2012 MAC Championship Game.

Other MAC teams scheduled to visit Kent are Buffalo (4-8, 3-5), Bowling Green (8-5, 6-2) and Miami (4-8, 3-5).

The Flashes will take road trips to Ball State (9-4, 6-2), Western Michigan (4-8, 2-6), Ohio (9-4, 4-4) and Akron (1-11, 0-8).

Kent State's non-conference opponents were previously released. The Flashes will take on LSU (10-3), which was ranked 13th in the final 2012-13 Associated Press Top 25 Poll, on Sept. 14 in Baton Rouge, La. Other non-conference road opponents are Penn State (8-4), set for Sept. 21, and South Alabama (2-11), slated for Oct. 19. Both of those games are also on the road. Kent State will host FBS I-AA Liberty (6-5) in its 2013 season opener on Saturday, Aug. 31.

The Flashes' matchup at South Alabama will have the team return to Ladd-Peebles Stadium, which is the home of the Jaguars and the host site of last weekend's Bowl in Mobile, Ala.
