G-Men narrowly miss chance to topple state's No. 6 team

The Garfield G-Men stood toe-to-toe with the sixth-ranked Division IV team in the state on Tuesday, but fell just short in a 65-63 non-league road loss.

Bristol entered the game with an unbeaten 11-0 record that was nearly blemished by Garfield, which now stands at 3-9 overall.

The Panthers jumped out to an early 18-10 lead after the first quarter, but Garfield responded soundly by outscoring its opponent 20-14 in the second quarter, making the halftime deficit for the G-Men 32-30.

Garfield narrowly outscored Bristol 17-16 in the third quarter, but were outscored by the Panthers similarly 17-16 in the final quarter.

Offensively, Garfield had four players reach double figures, with Steven Lambert and Anthony Workman both posting 13 points. Fred Maxey and Matt Pratt each added 12 points for the G-Men.

Bristol, which hit five 3-pointers in the game, were led in scoring by Brandon Lee, who had 21 points. Chad Oliver had 18 points and Zeth Tomasiak added 11 for the Panthers.

Next up for Garfield will be a home matchup with East Canton on Friday.
