Action-packed finish to regular season for area bowlers as Portage Trail Conference Tournament draws near

There are only two weeks left in the regular high school bowling season for PTC Metro and County Division teams before the PTC Tournament.

This week's schedule is packed as teams take the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday off today and continue the regular schedule on Tuesday.

LAST WEEK

The Southeast Pirates surprised the Woodridge Bulldogs, earning a victory by only four pins … and the Baker games didn't even count.

Southeast was up by four pins at the end of the regular games. After three Baker games, the margin was still the same.

MATCH OF THE WEEK

For the Springfield and Coventry girls, all the marbles for the regular season happen this week.

The Spartans and Comets meet on Tuesday at Turkeyfoot Lanes and then tackle each other again on Wednesday at Bill White's Akron Lanes.

The back-to-back matches may determine the champion of the regular division in the girls Metro Division.

BUT WAIT

The Kent Roosevelt girls are currently 5-3 and have important matches this week to conclude their season against Crestwood and Coventry.

The Rough Riders' only losses are to the two teams at the top, losing their first match to Coventry by 31 pins.

Now the Comets come to Kent Lanes to take on the Rough Riders at home on Friday.

FOR THE BOYS

Crestwood travels to Kent Roosevelt on Wednesday.

In the current regular-season standings, the match may not seem significant but now many teams are looking toward the season-ending tournament that counts for 50 percent of the PTC titles in all four divisions.

The Red Devils, just two wins behind Kent Roosevelt in a tie with Springfield, are looking to improve their place in the regular season in order to defend their current PTC Metro Division title at the tourney on Feb. 2.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS

The Portage Trail Conference Tournament takes place on Feb. 2 at Bill White's Akron Lanes in Akron.

Announcements and pre-tourney festivities get underway about 12:40 p.m. with the tournament rolling off at 1 p.m.

Teams will bowl three regular games and six Baker games.
