Wooster 68, Hiram 63
The Terriers very nearly pulled the upset over the Fighting Scots on Saturday, losing 68-63 on the road.
Wooster remains unbeaten at 9-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference with the win and improved to 16-2 overall.
Alan Sheppard was Hiram's leading scorer with 22 points, including four 3-pointers, while Aaron Stefanov had 16 points. Garfield High School graduate Steve Zivoder finished with nine points and 12 rebounds, while Waterloo High School graduate Tom Herchek buried his only shot -- a 3-pointer -- for three points for the Terriers (10-8, 4-5 NCAC).
Wooster had a balanced offensive attack that featured four players in double-digits led by Jake Mays, who had 13 points. Doug Thorpe, Xavier Brown and Kenny DeBoer all added 10 points each for the Scots.
Denison 66, Hiram 44
Another subpar first half for the Hiram College women's basketball team doomed the team's chances for North Coast Athletic Conference win No. 2 on Saturday, when Denison topped the Terriers 66-44.
Denison (11-8, 6-4 NCAC) stormed out to a 32-15 halftime advantage, before Hiram (6-13, 1-9 NCAC) battled relatively even (34-29) throughout the second half.
Hiram was led offensively by Calysia Smyers, who hit 5-of-6 from the floor for 11 points. Denison's leading scorer was Serafina Nuzzo, who scored 23 points.
