PTC Bowling Report: Rough Riders, Spartans remain strong as tournament looms

By Susan Jenior | Correspondent Published:

This is the final week of regular play leading into the PTC Metro and County Division tournaments for both boys and girls varsity bowlers.

In the Metro boys division, everyone is trying to catch Kent Roosevelt.

The Rough Riders have finished their regular season competition and just have to wait to see how everyone else concludes their matches.

The Springfield girls had a huge week last week, beating the Coventry girls both home and away to remain undefeated at the top of the league.

Garfield girls are the only additional undefeated team in the PTC.

THE TOURNAMENT

The PTC County and Metro Division tournaments run concurrently at Bill White's Akron Lanes on Saturday.

Pre-tournament ceremonies get underway at 12:40 with the tournament set to roll-off at 1 p.m.

The tournament is worth one-half of the points toward the Division title.

Crestwood boys, Garfield girls and boys and Springfield girls are the defending champions.

SPOTLIGHT ON

Ben Langstaff, Kent Roosevelt

Langstaff, a senior on the league-leading Kent Roosevelt Rough Riders team has been a solid contender the entire season.

This past week, in the match against Coventry, Ben rolled an outstanding 280 game.

There's only one way to do that…start with a spare and end with all strikes. Langstaff added a 186 game for a 466 series that was the best of the match.

Leannah Frances, Crestwood

Frances was the lone PTC bowler in the recent Rover Sectional Preview Tournament at Bill White's Twin Star Lanes to crack into the top five individuals.

She did it again at the recent 10th Annual McKinley Lanes Martin Luther King Bowling Invitational.

Leannah was in the top three individuals after bowling a 237 high game.

MATCH OF THE WEEK…

It's a big week for the Southeast Lady Pirates as they bowl both Rootstown and Woodridge on Monday and finish their regular season PTC schedule against Garfield on Thursday.

Southeast is currently in second place in the PTC County Division and, with a solid week, can hold onto that spot going into the PTC tournaments.

THIS WEEK

TODAY: Southeast, Woodridge and Norton at Rootstown; Springfield at Crestwood.

TUESDAY: Woodridge at East Canton; Coventry at Ravenna; Streetsboro at Crestwood

WEDNESDAY: Ravenna at Streetsboro, Coventry at Crestwood

THURSDAY: Garfield at Southeast

SATURDAY: PTC Varsity Bowling Tournaments at Bill White's Akron Lanes
