Kent State University announced on Wednesday the hiring of Lyndsey Maurer as the athletic department's Director of Athletic Communications.

Maurer had spent the previous six years as the assistant director of athletic communications at Brown University.

"We are thrilled to have Lyndsey join the Kent State community," KSU Director of Athletics Joel Nielsen said. "Her breadth of knowledge and experience at the Division I level will benefit us in many areas."

Maurer is a Northeast Ohio native and was Brown's primary media relations contact for 12 of the university's 37 varsity athletic teams. She played a key role in the redesign and launch of multiple Brown athletic websites, spearheaded the development of the Bears' social and new media platforms and assisted in the expansion of Brown's streaming audio and video on the website.

In 2011, Maurer was awarded a Brown University Excellence Award for her aid in developing a series of interactive magazines for various Brown athletic teams, and was also a three-time Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Sports Information Director of the Year.

Prior to Brown, Maurer wrote for the Sun Newspaper in Cleveland, and worked as an intern at Robert Falls & Company. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism/mass communications from St. Bonaventure University, where she played four years of Division I basketball in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
