MAC Men's Basketball Roundup (Feb. 2): Bowling Green downs Ball State

BOWLING GREEN Jordon Crawford had 19 points and eight assists off the bench to lead Bowling Green to a 70-59 victory over Ball State in a Mid-American Conference game on Saturday afternoon.

Auston Calhoun had 17 points and Chauncey Orr 10 for the Falcons (8-13, 3-5).

Jauwan Scaife had 17 points and Jesse Berry 13 for the Cardinals (8-12, 2-6), who shot 57.5 percent (30 of 52) from the field despite making only 2 of 13 from beyond the arc.

Bowling Green outscored Ball State 38-22 in the paint.

Toledo 69, Northern Illinois 64

DEKALB, Ill. Julius Brown scored 20 points and Toledo used a late rally to pull ahead and hold off Northern Illinois for a 69-64 victory Saturday afternoon.

Matt Smith added 14, and conference scoring leader Rian Pearson had 12, for the Rockets (9-10, 5-3 Mid-American).

Abdel Nader recorded his second consecutive double-double for the Huskies (5-15, 3-5) with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Aksel Bolin chipped in 18 points and six boards.

Western Michigan 71, Buffalo 60

KALAMAZOO, Mich. Shayne Whittington scored 23 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and had four steals to lead Western Michigan past Buffalo 71-60 on Saturday night.

Darius Paul had 15 points and eight rebounds, David Brown chipped in with 13 and Western Michigan (14-7, 6-2 Mid-American) out-rebounded the Bulls 40-30 while forcing Buffalo to commit 20 turnovers. The Broncos were 21 of 32 from the free-throw line.

Miami (Ohio) 70, Central Michigan 61

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. Allen Roberts scored 19 points to lead Miami (Ohio) to a 70-61 win over Central Michigan Saturday night.

The Redhawks (8-12, 3-5 Mid-American) went ahead to stay at 51-48 on Roberts 3-pointer with 7:18 to play. Central Michigan stayed close and it was 59-57 when Roberts scored with 1:52 remaining. Miami was 8 for 8 at the free-throw line in the final minute.
