Hiram College Basketball Roundup: Terrier teams drop heartbreakers to Ohio Wesleyan

MEN'S BASKETBALL

OHIO WESLEYAN 63, HIRAM 61

With Ohio Wesleyan trailing 61-60, the Battling Bishops’ Anjuwon Spence nailed a 3-pointer with four seconds left to hand the visiting Terriers a heartbreaking defeat Saturday in Delaware, Ohio.

Prior to Spence’s game-winner, Aaron Stefanov (Stow High School) had hit a jump shot to give Hiram (11-11, 5-8 NCAC) a 61-57 lead with 58 seconds left in the game, setting the stage for a furious last-minute rally by the Battling Bishops (16-5, 9-4).

Stefanov finished with 19 points for Hiram, while Alan Sheppard added 17 points. Stefanov and Sheppard each hit three 3-pointers.

Andy Winters led Ohio Wesleyan with 18 points, followed by Marshall Morris and Reuel Rogers with 13 points each.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

OHIO WESLEYAN 69, HIRAM 68

The visiting Terriers rallied from a 46-35 deficit with 14:15 left in the game to lead 53-50 with 6:55 remaining, setting up a back-and-forth finish that saw Hiram end up just one point short in Delaware, Ohio.

Alexis Kemper led the Terriers (8-16, 3-12 NCAC) with 17 points, while Calysia Smyers came off the bench to score 16 points. Brenna Host added 10 points for Hiram.

For Ohio Wesleyan (8-15, 7-7 NCAC), Caroline Welker came off the bench to lead all scorers in the game with 26 points.

Two other Wesleyan reserves, Emily Julius and Mary Corbett, scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Kristin Henning also scored 10 points.
