Record-Courier staff report
The Kent State women's basketball team was unable to match a Miami (17-10, 9-5) team that shot 66 percent in Thursday night's 73-39 loss to the host RedHawks in a Mid-American Conference game in Oxford.
The first five minutes of the game started evenly until Miami (17-10, 9-5 MAC) took a seven-point lead midway through the first half, then increased that lead by an additional 11 points to go up 38-20 after the first 20 minutes of play.
Kent State (3-24, 1-13) came out flat in the second half, not scoring a point until six minutes in, and Miami seemed not to miss on its way to the victory.
The Golden Flashes had 12 steals in the game, the most since they had 15 in their season opener. They also grabbed 13 offensive rebounds that led to nine second-chance points.
Ashley Evans continued to stay hot, leading the Flashes with 13 points. Diamon Beckford finished with eight points, five rebounds and three steals.
