Field High School graduate Jeffrey Craig wins MAC diving titles

Record-Courier Staff Report Published:

Field High School graduate Jeffrey Craig won individual Mid-American Conference championships last weekend in the one-meter and three-meter diving competitions.

Craig, who is a senior on the Eastern Michigan University squad, won his titles in record-setting fashion. For his efforts, he was named the recipient of the MAC's Outstanding Diver award.

In the one-meter event, he set a pool and MAC Championship record with a finals score of 389.90. The score was 44 points higher than runner-up -- and Eagles teammate -- Andrew Saunders.

In the three-meter competition, Craig set another pool record with a score of 416.60. He narrowly missed the MAC Championship record (422.55), which was set by Miami's Heaton Mu in 2009.

Craig's finals score in the three-meter event, though, once again was far higher than his closest competitor -- Southern Illinois' Kegan Skelton, who scored a 381.50.

The scores helped Eastern Michigan win the team MAC title, topping Missouri State 772 to 766. It was the Eagles' 31st career MAC championship.
