Ball State women advance to second round at WNIT

The Mid-American Conference's Ball State women's basketball team advanced to the second round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament on Friday, defeating Minnesota 54-51.

The Cardinals (16-15) built a 10-point lead at halftime (27-17), then was able to hang on as the Gophers (18-14) rallied in the second half to make it a closer game.

Ball State was led offensively by Brandy Moody, who scored a game-high 19 points. The 5-foot-4 junior guard hit 6-of-14 from the floor, including a pair of 3-pointers and was 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. She also had five rebounds.

Joining her in double figures was sophomore guard Brittany Carter. She hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points.

The win advances Ball State into a second-round matchup against Northern Iowa (17-16) on Sunday at 2 p.m.
