The Walsh University athletic department announced on Friday that women's basketball head coach Laurel Wartluft has resigned from her position.

Wartluft, who has been the leader of the Cavaliers for the past seven seasons, cited pursuit of other interests as her reason to step down.

During her tenure at Walsh University, Wartluft posted a 113-98 record, with the team finishing 8-18 during the 2012-13 season.

Wartluft guided the Cavs to three winning seasons, which included an NAIA Final Four appearance in 2011 when they finished 30-5. In 2009-10, Walsh finished 24-10 and earned a berth in the NAIA National Championships.

In 23 years as a head coach, including a stint at Kent State University, Wartluft owns an overall career record of 341-330.

"We would like to thank Laurel Wartluft for her dedication to our women's basketball program," exclaimed Dale Howard, Director of Athletics. "We wish her the very best in her future endeavors."

The athletic department announced that the search to find Wartluft's replacement is currently under way and is expected to end soon.
