The Greyhounds defeated the Stags by five points in both regular season matchups, one of which went into overtime. ... Kent State is making its 14th postseason appearance and third trip to the CIT. The Flashes reached 20 wins for the 14th time in the past 15 seasons with a 70-68 victory over Buffalo in the third round of the MAC Tournament, then lost to eventual champion Akron 62-59 in the semifinals. Kent State has won nine of its last 11 games and had a six-game winning streak snapped by the Zips. The Flashes and Western Michigan are the only MAC teams still alive in postseason play.
Senderoff on Loyola Maryland: "They're gonna be a tough matchup for us. They have two first-team all-conference players (Cormier and Etherly), and they're a really good offensive team. They do a lot of different things defensively, really mix things up from man-to-man to press to zone. Coach (Patsos) has done a really good job making their program relevant. It's gonna be a challenge."
Next: The winner advances to the quarterfinals of the CIT. The opponent, date and site of the next matchup will be announced after the second round is complete.
