Ohio State No. 2, Kent State gets three votes in USA Today preseason poll

The Ohio State Buckeyes, who went a perfect 12-0 last season in Urban Meyer's first year as head coach, are ranked second with 1,427 total votes in the USA Today Top 25 preseason coaches' poll released Thursday.

Also, defending Mid-American Conference East Division champion Kent State received three total votes, good for a tie for 43rd place.

The Golden Flashes are joined in the poll by fellow MAC teams Northern Illinois (tied for 37th) and Ohio University (tied for 39th). Toledo received one vote.

Northern Illinois defeated Kent State in last season's MAC Championship Game.

Ohio State, which finished the 2012 season as college football's only unbeaten team, received three first-place votes.

Meanwhile, defending national champion Alabama is No. 1 in the USA Today preseason poll. The Crimson Tide received 58-of-62 first-place votes.

Oregon is No. 3, Stanford is 4, Georgia is 5 and No. 6 Texas A&M received the other first-place vote.

Rounding out the top 10 are South Carolina at No. 7, Clemson at No. 8, Louisville at No. 9 and Florida at No. 10.

Notre Dame, which was routed in the BCS title game 42-14 by Alabama last season, is No. 11.
