This is it, the first week of high school golf.
Coaches for boys and girls golf officially met with their potential team members on Thursday for two days of tryout before the season begins today. That wasn't much time for many of the teams to pull it together for matches and tournaments but fortunately many teams have been practicing informally throughout the summer and golfers in the Portage Trail Conference and in Portage County have been competing in tournaments for the past two months.
The PTC High School Boys Golf Preview was in Sunday's Record-Courier. Today readers and fans will find Portage County's girls golf preview. On Aug. 11, this column will preview two additional teams in Portage County not in the PTC: Aurora and Windham.

It will be very fun to watch them compete this season."

"The girls have been working hard throughout the summer and we are looking forward to an exciting season," said coach Fesemyer.
19th Hole: Macie Hysell has played and placed high in many tournaments over the summer and she is off to a great start. Hannah and Miah are the team captains and lead by example according to their coach.

PTC schools take advantage of the opportunity to compete on the course that will host the PTC County and Metro Division tournaments at the end of the season.
The league has a different look this season.
Gone are Windham and East Canton. Windham has changed leagues as has East Canton, but the Hornets had not hosted a golf team in the PTC for the past two seasons.

The make-up is: County Division -- Woodridge, Mogadore, Southeast, Rootstown, Waterloo, Garfield and Streetsboro; Metro Division -- Kent Roosevelt, Ravenna, Crestwood, Coventry, Norton, Springfield and Field.
The official PTC schedule begins Aug. 12.
Both Kent Roosevelt and Southeast compete in different leagues.
Southeast is coming off a second-place finish in the Greater Akron Girls Golf League last season.
Longtime Pirates coach of cross country, basketball and track, Cindy Fesemyer, will now lead the girls golf team this season. The GAGGL Pre-Season Invitation begins this week, with GAGGL league matches and independent matches to follow.
