KENT ROOSEVELT 4, FIELD 1
Defending Portage Trail Conference girls tennis champ Kent Roosevelt opened its 2013 campaign with a victory over PTC rival Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Falcon Abbie Helwig lived up to her billing as the league's consensus top player at first singles, but the Riders outlasted stiff competition at the two remaining singles spots while sweeping both doubles matches.
"This was a match that could have gone either way," said Kent Roosevelt coach Kim Uhlik. "Sarah Kegg needed three sets, and both Hannah Kegg and first doubles were forced into first set tie-breaks. Nonetheless, our players found a way to win."
Roosevelt hosts Coventry today and Ravenna on Thursday.
