Ravenna's newly reconstructed tennis complex provided plenty of incentive for the home team, but Kent Roosevelt eked out a 5-0 Portage Trail Conference road victory that was much closer than the final score indicated.
The Ravens forced both second singles and first doubles to three sets, and fought to a tiebreak at third singles. The Riders' second-doubles pair represented the only match that seemed secure after the early games were completed.
"Whenever you hold an advantage point, you've got to convert that game," said Ravenna coach Tony Hanna. "It's the difference between winning 6-4, or losing 4-6," as illustrated by Rider Alex McDaniel's 6-4, 6-4 win over Raven Ann Smith at first singles.
Roosevelt improves to 7-3 on the season (6-1 PTC).
