MOGADORE 49, SMITHVILLE 14
Junior Brandon Berry scored three touchdowns to lead the Wildcats to a non-league win over the host Smithies on Friday.
Mogadore (2-0) led 14-0 after one quarter on TD runs of 1 yard by Nathan Alexander and 3 yards by Berry, but Smithville (0-2) cut the lead to 14-7 in the second quarter on a 1-yard run by Bryce Bauman.
After that, however, it was all Wildcats.
Berry scored on a 5-yard run and Austin Kerr added a 1-yard TD run to put Mogadore up 28-7 at the half.
The Wildcats expanded their lead to 35-7 after three quarters on senior quarterback Anthony Ricci's 63-yard pass to Berry.
In the fourth quarter, Luke Cramer scored on a 9-yard run to push Mogadore's advantage to 42-7. Smithville's Noah Schonover returned the ensuing kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown, and the Wildcats' Josh Tompkins concluded the night's scoring with a 44-yard touchdown run.
Berry finished with 73 yards rushing on 17 carries, with Ricci completing 6-of-9 passes for 119 yards.
GARFIELD 27, EAST CANTON 26
Garfield quarterback Chase Chapman completed 11-of-19 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns as the visiting G-Men improved to 2-0 on the season with a narrow win over the Hornets (0-2).
Garfield led 7-6 after one quarter on the strength of Seth Duvall's 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, and got a second-quarter score on Will Duvall's 1-yard run to lead 14-13 at halftime.
Chapman then connected on a 69-yard touchdown pass to Fred Maxey as the G-Men clung to a 21-20 lead after three quarters, and Chapman's 30-yard TD hookup with Mason Butler in the fourth quarter proved to be the game-winner.
Maxey finished the game with four receptions for 104 yards for Garfield.
JACKSON-MILTON 55, ROOTSTOWN 15
The host Bluejays took control early, jumping out to a 23-0 first-quarter lead en route to defeating the Rovers in a non-conference game in North Jackson.
Tyler Shaffer scored three touchdowns and Thomas Gatewood two TDs for Jackson-Milton (1-1), while Chase Fife found the end zone twice for Rootstown (0-2).
Jackson-Milton got touchdowns on a 2-yard run by Shaffer, an 8-yard pass from Jeremy Fitzpatrick to Tyler Totani, and a 1-yard run by Shaffer to grab its commanding lead after one quarter.
The Bluejays scored three more times in the second quarter on Fitzpatrick touchdown passes of 6 yards to Mike Assion and 57 yards to Gatewood, along with a 26-yard TD run by Shaffer, to lead 42-0 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Gatewood returned an interception 48 yards for a touchdown and Joseph Burnside scored on an 11-yard run to give Jackson-Milton a 55-0 lead after three quarters.
Fife scored twice in the fourth quarter for the Rovers on runs of 11 and 30 yards.
Shaffer finished with 165 yards rushing on 23 carries for Jackson-Milton, while Fife picked up 104 yards on 14 tries for Rootstown.
LOWELLVILLE 49, WINDHAM 12
The host Rockets raced out to a 28-0 lead after one quarter and never looked back in the handing the Bombers a non-league defeat.
A 65-yard run by Robert Ciccone, 43-yard pass from Alex Harklerode to Van Vanover, 5-yard run by Harklerode and 4-yard run by Phil Ginnis gave Lowellville (2-0) its big first-quarter lead.
Ciccone scored on a 6-yard run in the second quarter to make it 35-0, before Windham got on the board on Chandler Ozanich's 9-yard pass to Parker Rickey to make it 35-6 at halftime.
The Rockets pushed their lead to 49-6 after three quarters on TD runs of 1 yard by Harklerode and 12 yards by Ginnis.
The Bombers closed the game's scoring in the fourth quarter on a 30-yard pass from Ozanich to Brady Russell.
Ozanich had a big night for the Bombers, completing 15-of-29 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns. Rickey caught six passes for 85 yards and a TD.
Ciccone led Lowellville on the ground with 92 yards on seven carries and two touchdowns, while Harklerode was 4-of-5 passing for 60 yards and one TD. Vanover caught two passes for 50 yards and one touchdown for the Rockets.
