AKRON — Terrance Broadway threw three touchdowns and ran for two more but an onside kick was the biggest play in Louisiana-Lafayette’s 35-30 win over Akron on Saturday night. After retaking the lead 28-24 in the fourth quarter, Hunter Stover recovered his own onside kick, giving the Ragin’ Cajuns (2-2) the ball, and Broadway capped the drive with a game-winning 14-yard pass to Darryl Surgent. Akron (1-3) missed two fourth quarter field goal attempts, and its final TD, a 28-yard pass from Kyle Pohl to Fransohn Bickley, wasn’t enough.
Toledo 38, Central Michigan 17
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — David Fluellen rushed for 197 yards and two touchdowns to lift Toledo to a 38-17 win over Central Michigan in a Mid-American Conference game Saturday. Fluellen had 32 carries as the Toledo (2-2, 1-0 MAC) emphasized its running game against Central Michigan (1-3, 0-1 MAC). The Rockets piled up 252 yards rushing and 166 in the air, including a 3-yard touchdown pass from Terrance Owens to Alonzo Russell in the second quarter.
Ball State 51, Eastern Michigan 20
YPSILANTI, Mich. — Jahwan Edwards scored three rushing touchdowns to lead a powerful Ball State offense in a 51-20 victory over Eastern Michigan on Saturday. The performance by Ball State (3-1, 1-0 MAC) against Eastern Michigan (1-3, 0-1 MAC) showed why the Cardinals entered the game with the top-ranked scoring offense in the Mid-American Conference. Ball State’s Keith Wenning threw for 317 yards and two touchdowns. Wenning has passed for more than 300 yards in all four Ball State games this season.
Ohio 38, Austin Peay 0
ATHENS — Tyler Tettleton threw three first-half touchdowns to lead Ohio to a 38-0 rout of Austin Peay on Saturday. Tettleton went 13-of-15 for 213 yards passing for the Bobcats (3-1).
Iowa 59, Western Michigan 3
IOWA CITY, Iowa — Kevonte Martin-Manley returned back-to-back punts for touchdowns; B.J. Lowery returned a pair of interceptions for TDs and Iowa rolled past Western Michigan 59-3 on Saturday. The Hawkeyes (3-1) now enter Big Ten play with a three-game winning streak, their longest since 2010. Martin-Manley scored on returns of 83 and 63 yards early in the second quarter as Iowa jumped out to a 38-3 halftime lead.
Vanderbilt 24, Massachusetts 7
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Austyn Carta-Samuels threw for two touchdowns and Vanderbilt (2-2) used a pair of TDs in the fourth quarter to pull away in a 24-7 victory over Massachusetts (0-4) on Saturday.
Bowling Green 48, Murray State 7
BOWLING GREEN — Matt Johnson threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as Bowling Green routed Murray State 48-7 on Saturday. All three of Johnson’s touchdowns came in the first half, beginning with a 4-yard pass to Chris Gallon. After throwing an interception on the following drive, Johnson responded with a 7-yard touchdown run and a 1-yard touchdown pass in the waning seconds of the half to give Bowling Green (3-1) a 27-0 lead.
Cincinnati 14, Miami (Ohio) 0
OXFORD — Hosey Williams’ 1-yard touchdown run broke a scoreless tie with 4:55 to go, and self-destructive Cincinnati beat Miami of Ohio 14-0 on Saturday for its eighth-straight win in the rivalry. Miami (0-3) had another dismal game with its option offense, managing 1 net yard in the second half.
Northern Illinois 43, Eastern Illinois 39
DEKALB, Ill. — Jordan Lynch accounted for 424 yards of offense in the air and on the ground as Northern Illinois overcame six touchdown passes by Jimmy Garoppolo to pull out a 43-39 victory on Saturday night. Garoppolo, with 450 yards on 34-of-49 passing, tied Tony Romo’s school career record of 85 TD throws.
