Kent State basketball teams invite fans, public to Hoops 'n' Halloween

Kent State will tip-off its men's and women's basketball seasons by hosting a Hoops 'n' Halloween event on Saturday at the M.A.C. Center from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Hoops 'n' Halloween is free and open to the public, and the first 200 fans through the door will receive a free Kent State mini basketball. It will provide the community with a fun, safe place for children and adults to trick-or-treat, while fans will also have the opportunity to interact with the men's and women's basketball teams.

The event will begin with an hour of activities, including trick-or-treating throughout the M.A.C. Center, with stops in a haunted hallway, men's and women's locker rooms and more. On-court activities with the players will include free throws, half-court shots and skills challenges.

Guests are encouraged to dress up and participate in the costume contest, which will be judged by KSU basketball players. Costume contest winners will help judge the slam dunk contest.

After team introductions and a few words from Golden Flashes men's basketball coach Rob Senderoff and women's basketball coach Danielle O'Banion, the evening will conclude with a slam dunk contest featuring members of the men's team, followed by two fans shooting a half-court shot to win $15,000.

The Kent State men's team will open the 2013-14 season with a home game against Ohio Northern on Nov. 8, while the women's squad will host Eastern Kentucky in its opener on Nov. 10.
