The 3rd annual Kent Area Chamber of Commerce Tip-Off Breakfast, featuring the Kent State men's and women's basketball teams, took place Tuesday morning at Kent State University's M.A.C. Center.
A record 146 people attended the event, including representatives from several Kent-area businesses, who mingled with Golden Flashes players and coaches while enjoying a breakfast catered by Cajun Dave's.
Second-year Kent State women's basketball coach Danielle O'Banion introduced her players, which include eight newcomers. The Flashes will look to make major strides this year after finishing 3-27 last season, and will open the 2013-14 campaign Nov. 10 at home against Eastern Kentucky.
Third-year KSU men's mentor Rob Senderoff then introduced his players, headed by returning starters Mark Henniger, Darren Goodson and Kris Brewer. The Flashes were 21-14 last year and reached 20 wins for the 14th time in the past 15 seasons. The team will begin the season by hosting Ohio Northern on Nov. 8.
Last year, through fundraisers such as Tuesday's tip-off breakfast, the KACC was able to give three $1,000 scholarships to deserving seniors at Kent Roosevelt High School.
