MAC East Division Preseason Basketball Poll: Kent State men 4th, women 6th

CLEVELAND -- The Kent State men's basketball team is predicted to finish fourth and the KSU women's squad sixth in the East Division in the 2013-14 Mid-American Conference Preseason Poll. The men's poll was announced Tuesday morning and voted on by a 25-member MAC News Media Panel, while the women's poll was conducted by the 12 conference head coaches.

Defending MAC Tournament champion Akron was picked to win the East Division with 143 total votes and 18 first-place votes, followed in order by Buffalo (120, 6), Ohio (94), Kent State (91, 1), Miami (42) and Bowling Green (35).

Akron was the top vote-getter with 14 to win the 2014 MAC Tournament, followed by Toledo (7) and Buffalo (1).

The MAC East Division Preseason All-MAC Team is comprised of Quincy Diggs (Akron), Will Felder (Miami), Javon McCrea (Buffalo), Will Regan (Buffalo) and Demetrius Treadwell (Akron).

The predicted order of finish in the West is: 1. Toledo - 149 (24); 2. Western Michigan - 108; 3. Eastern Michigan - 101 (1); 4. Ball State - 89; 5. Central Michigan - 50; 6. Northern Illinois - 28.

The West Division Preseason All-MAC Team is: Julius Brown, Toledo; Glenn Bryant, Eastern Michigan; Majok Majok, Ball State; Rian Pearson, Toledo; Shayne Whittington, Western Michigan.

WOMEN'S POLL

Akron was predicted to win the East Division, with Central Michigan chosen to sit atop the West. Bowling Green, Buffalo, Miami, Ohio and Kent State round out the East standings, while Ball State, Toledo, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan and Northern Illinois follow the Chippewas in the West.

Central Michigan received nine of the 12 votes to be the predicted tournament champion. Akron, Bowling Green and Miami all received a vote apiece.

The Preseason All-MAC East Team is: Hanna Luburgh (Akron); Rachel Tecca (Akron); Alexis Rogers (Bowling Green); Mackenzie Loesing (Buffalo); Hannah Robertson (Miami).

The Preseason All-MAC West Team is: Nathalie Fontaine (Ball State); Crystal Bradford (Central Michigan); Jessica Green (Central Michigan); Andola Dortch (Toledo); Inma Zanoguera (Toledo).
