They return all five starters from last year’s 14-19 squad headed by 6-2 senior point guard Trey Sumler, who averaged a team-high 18.4 points per game last year and is tops once again this season at 16 points and 3.3 assists per game. Other top performers include 6-3 junior guard James Sinclair (13 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.6 steals) and 6-4 senior guard Tom Tankelewicz (12.6 points per game).

USC UPSTATE (1-2)

The Spartans also return all five starters from a year ago and have a veteran coach of their own in Eddie Payne, who has 417 wins in 28 years on the bench. They feature 2012 Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year Torrey Craig, a 6-6 senior forward who has led the league in scoring the past two years. Craig averaged 17.2 points a 6.9 boards a year ago, and is up to 21.3 and 8.0 so far this season. Others to watch include 6-3 junior guard Ty Green (17.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4 assists) and 6-8 senior forward Ricardo Glenn, who averaged 8.1 rebounds per game last season.

NIAGARA (1-1)

The defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champion Purple Eagles lost head coach Joe Mihalich and key performers Juan’ya Green and Ameen Tanksley, who all went to Hofstra. Rookie coach Chris Carey has all-conference guard Antione Mason, a 6-3 junior who averaged 18.7 points and 4.1 rebounds last year. He’s tossing in 29.5 points after two games this season, while 6-5 freshman forward Ramone Snowden is averaging 11 points and 11.5 boards.
