Cleveland State 78, Ball State 55
CLEVELAND -- Trey Lewis scored 23 points and Cleveland State opened the gates in the second half sending Ball State home with a 78-55 loss on Saturday night.
Cleveland State was up by seven (39-32) at halftime and shooting a whopping 62 percent but Ball State was still able to stay close by putting up more shots than the more methodical Vikings and making more free throws.
Cleveland State (4-3), who narrowly lost to Kentucky on Monday, finished the night shooting 63 percent and continued hitting the higher percentage short jumpers and inside the paint shots. The Cardinals (3-3) got no closer than four points at the beginning of the second half.
Central Michigan 66, Jacksonville State 61
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Chris Fowler was 8-of-11 from the field, scoring 21 points, as Central Michigan held off Jacksonville State 66-61.
Central Michigan (5-3) hit a scorching 60.5 percent from the field, making 13-of-18 in the second period. The Chippewas also outrebounded Jacksonville State (3-6) 26 to 19.
Central Michigan managed to get a 29-25 halftime lead after a scrappy first half. The Chippewas pushed their lead to 45-32 with 14:23 remaining.
A Jamal Hunter tip-in followed by three free throws from Grant White and Hunter tightened the score to 56-53.
Buffalo 65, Delaware State 55
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Javon McCrea had nine points, eight rebounds and three blocks to lead Buffalo over Delaware State 65-55 on Saturday.
With his third block he reached 198 for his career -- passing Mitchell Watt for second in school history. It was McCrea's first game scoring under double digits since a Dec. 12, 2012 match against Washington State.
Buffalo (3-2) led 61-55 with 1:13 to play and held the Hornets to only one more shot attempt to seal the win.
Ohio 81, Evansville 59
ATHENS -- Nick Kellogg scored 13 points and three teammates scored in double digits Saturday as Ohio dominated Evansville in an 81-59 win.
Ricardo Johnson and Javarez Willis each scored 12 for Ohio (6-1) and Travis Wilkins added 10. Kellogg scored three 3-pointers and the Bobcats outshot the Aces 48.4 percent from the field to 37.7 percent.
Egidijus Mockevicius led Evansville (5-2) with a game-high 19 points and 9 rebounds and D.J. Balentine added 15 points.
Nebraska 63, Northern Illinois 58
LINCOLN, Neb. -- Deverell Biggs had 18 points and hit four free throws in the final 7 seconds as Nebraska held on to defeat Northern Illinois 63-58.
Nebraska (5-2) took a 48-35 lead on Tai Webster's layup with 13:17 remaining. But the Huskers then went 6 minutes without a basket and Northern Illinois (2-4) cut the lead to 51-45 on Jordan Threloff's free throws with 7:28 left.
