Kent State women's basketball team adds Michigan State softball transfer

Record-Courier staff report Published:

The Kent State women's basketball team announced on Friday the signing of McKenna Stephens, who will transfer to KSU after spending time at Michigan State on a softball scholarship.

Stephens is a native of Uniontown and will become eligible to play basketball for the Golden Flashes at the start of the second semester of the 2014-15 season.

The 6-foot-2 power forward graduated from Lake High School, and was named Northeast Inland District Player of the Year and Third Team All-Ohio during her senior season with the Blue Streaks.

During her prep career, Stephens hit the 1,000-point plateau and finished with averages of 13.6 points, six rebounds and 2.3 assists per game as a senior. As a junior, she led the Blue Streaks to their first-ever league title and a 21-2 record.

Stephens will be the sixth newcomer to next year's team. Kent State signed five high school seniors, all Ohio natives, during the fall signing period.
