Buffalo 76, Eastern Michigan 66
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Jarryn Skeete scored nine of his season-high 19 points in the final six minutes to lead Buffalo to a 76-66 victory Saturday over Eastern Michigan.
Skeete’s three-point play gave Buffalo (8-4, 2-0 Mid-American) its first lead of the second half, 56-55 with 5:26 to play. Mike Talley made one of two from the line for Eastern Michigan to tie the game at 56. Skeete answered with a 3-pointer, fueling a 20-10 run by the Bulls to cap the scoring.
Skeete finished 5-of-11 from the field and hit four 3-pointers. Will Regan and Jarod Oldham each scored 11 points. Javon McCrea added 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Bulls.
Glenn Bryant scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds for Eastern Michigan (9-6, 1-1). Da’Shonte Riley had 11 rebounds to lead the Eagles.
Western Michigan 78, Miami (Ohio) 77 (OT)
OXFORD — David Brown had 25 points and made the game-winning free throw for Western Michigan’s 78-77 victory in overtime Saturday at Miami of Ohio.
With the game tied 77-77 and 2.1 seconds left, Brown made the first and missed the second. Connar Tava grabbed the rebound for Western Michigan to secure the win.
Tava added 22 points for the Broncos (9-5, 2-0 Mid-American). He was 7-of-8 from the field and 8-of-8 from the free-throw line. Shayne Whittington had 12 points and eight rebounds.
Bill Edwards tied the game for Miami on a leaner with 6.4 seconds left in overtime, but his fifth foul sent Brown to the line a few seconds later. Edwards finished with a career-high 24 points. It was his first appearance since a knee injury on Nov. 24, 2012.
Will Felder added 19 points and Willie Moore had 11 for the RedHawks (5-8, 1-1).
Toledo 86, Central Michigan 71
TOLEDO — Julius Brown had 15 points and 12 assists while J.D. Weatherspoon added 14 points and 11 rebounds in Toledo’s 86-71 victory over Central Michigan on Saturday night.
Both teams were looking for their first win in the Mid-American Conference and Toledo’s 57.1 percent (28 of 49) overall shooting proved too much for CMU.
Toledo (13-2, 1-1) led 35-27 at halftime and opened the second on a 7-2 run. From there, the Rockets cruised until Chris Fowler’s layup capped a 7-0 run for CMU which brought the Chippewas within 68-62.
Toledo called timeout shortly afterward and responded with its own seven-point run to put the game comfortably out of reach.
Rian Pearson scored 14 points, Nathan Boothe had 13, Jordan Lauf added 12 and Justin Drummond 11.
Fowler led the Chippewas (7-7, 0-2) with 21 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Braylon Rayson had 15 points and John Simons had 10.
