Toledo 75, Akron 61
AKRON -- Julius Brown scored 25 points and J.D. Weatherspoon added a career-high 20 and grabbed 14 rebounds as Toledo beat Akron 75-61 on Saturday.
It was Brown's second 20-plus game after hitting a last-second shot on Wednesday to lift Toledo to a two-point win over Buffalo. He made 4-of-9 3-pointers against Akron and all five of his free throws. Brown entered the game ranked fourth in the nation in assists per game (7.2) but was credited with just one on the day.
It was Toledo's (15-2, 3-1 MAC) first win against Akron since 2007 and its first victory on Akron's home court since 2001.
Demetrius Treadwell led Akron (11-6, 3-1) with 18 points and 10 rebounds. The Zips were out-rebounded 42-28. Jake Kretzer added 14 points and Nick Harney had 11. Akron made just 16 of its 27 free throw attempts.
Miami 64, Ball State 52
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Will Felder scored 19 points as Miami snapped a two-game losing skid with a 64-52 victory over Ball State on Saturday.
Miami (6-9, 2-2 Mid-American) bounces back after having lost two straight conference games by a combined eight points.
Miami led by as many as 26 points with 10:26 remaining. Felder made a field goal to give Miami a 58-39 lead with 6:51 to play. Ball State closed with a 13-6 run to cap the scoring.
Felder made eight of 12 field goals, and has scored 15 points or more for the fifth straight time this season. Jaryd Eustace scored 13 points for Miami. Willie Moore added 12.
Zavier Turner scored a career-high 24 points to lead Ball State (3-12, 0-4). Chris Bond had 14 points and Majok Majok grabbed 10 rebounds for the Cardinals, who have lost four straight.
Eastern Michigan 72, Central Michigan 59
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Mike Talley scored 21 points in helping Eastern Michigan get past Central Michigan 72-59 on Saturday.
Karrington Ward mastered the paint for the Eagles, pulling in 15 rebounds and scoring 15 points in the victory.
Eastern Michigan (11-6, 3-1 Mid-American) entered the second period with a four point advantage, 25-21 over Central Michigan as both teams had problems hitting the basket in the first half, especially from the 3-point range.
Eastern Michigan led 44-37 with 11 minutes to play, when the Eagles pulled off a 7-0 run over the next 30 seconds highlighted by six Talley points, upping their lead to 51-37
Glen Bryant's dunk with just under two minutes left forced Central Michigan (7-9, 0-4) into foul mode and the Eagles responded by making 8-of-10 from the line in picking up the win.
Central Michigan was led by Austin Stewart who tallied 15 points.
Ohio 65, Northern Illinois 46
DEKALB, Ill. -- Nick Kellogg scored 16 points, Maurice Ndour added 10 and Ohio cruised to a 65-46 victory Saturday night over Northern Illinois.
Down 25-24 at the break, Ohio opened the second half with a 23-12 run to take a 47-37 lead with 12:18 remaining. Northern Illinois then went nearly nine minutes without scoring, allowing the Bobcats to stretch their lead to 62-40 with 3:47 left.
Kellogg was 6-of-8 from the floor and hit 4-of-5 3-pointers. Ndour made all four free throw attempts, and grabbed eight rebounds.
Ohio (13-4, 3-1 Mid-American) has won ten of its last 11 league road games, its best in program history.
Aaron Armstead and Travon Baker each scored 12 points to lead Northern Illinois (7-9, 1-3), which has lost three of its last four games.
