Rootstown native Jessica Eye lost a heartbreaking split decision to Alexis Davis on Saturday night at UFC 170, held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nev.

Eye seemed to get the better of Davis in the first two rounds before Davis came on strong in the third. However, Davis scored a takedown late in the first round, which apparently was the difference as Davis took two of three 29-28 scores.

Eye was dominant early, picking Davis apart standing in the fight's opening round, landing from distance and overpowering Davis in the clinch. Davis did score a takedown in the final minute, but couldn't do much with it.

The second round belonged to Eye as she continued to strike at will. The fight then hit the ground and Davis could do little more than cover up and ride out the majority of the round.

However, the fight changed dramatically in round three. Davis showed fire in the third round while Eye tired, with Davis convincingly winning the final round. Davis landed clean punches, but couldn't string together enough in a row to come close to finishing the fight.

Eye (10-2, 1 ND) was coming off a UFC 166 victory over Sarah Kaufmann, which was later overturned to a no-decision due to the presence of cannaboids in Eye's post-fight test.

Davis, meanwhile, (16-5) won her fifth consecutive fight.
