Kent State women's basketball falls at Buffalo in regular-season finale

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Kent State women's basketball team concluded the 2013-14 regular season with a 64-51 loss at Buffalo on Saturday afternoon.

Kent State (7-22, 4-14 MAC) was guilty of 16 turnovers in the first half and was outshot 18-4 in the paint but still found itself down only 23-19 at halftime.

However, the Bulls (17-12, 10-8 MAC) grabbed a 10-point lead out of the break after shooting better than 50 percent from the floor in the opening nine minutes of the second half. They then went on to lead 54-41 at the final media break with four minutes remaining.

Two 3-point shots by Buffalo forced Kent State to call a timeout with 2:27 to go as the Bulls' lead grew to 15 points en route to the 64-51 final score.

For the game, Buffalo scored 44 of its 64 points in the paint, whereas Kent State only managed 18 points from close range. The Golden Flashes also turned the ball over a total of 27 times that resulted in 16 Bull points.

Senior guard Ashley Evans was the Flashes' leading scorer on the day with 14 points. Junior forward Montia Johnson finished with 12.

Kent State will open the first round of the MAC Tournament on the road Monday. With the win, Buffalo clinched the four seed and a bye.
