MAC Women's Tournament Roundup: Akron advances to semifinals with win over Toledo

Akron 83, Toledo 69

CLEVELAND — No. 3 Akron used a 57-point first half to cruise to victory over the No. 6 Toledo Rockets 83-69  in the MAC Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday at Quicken Loans Arena.

The Rockets scored the first basket of the contest less than 30 seconds into the game. The Zips scored the next two baskets of the game, and after the 18:40 mark of the first half Toledo never saw the lead again.

Hanna Luburgh came up big for Akron in the first half, scoring 26 of her game-high 31 points, as did Anita Brown, scoring 12 of her 14 points in the opening half.

Also scoring in double-digits for the Zips were Rachel Tecca with 11 points and Carly Young with 10. Young finished the game with a double-double with her point total and 10 rebounds.

Leading the scoring column for Toledo were Inma Zanoguero with 12, Elena De Alfredo with 11, and Ana Capotosto, Brianna Jones and Andola Dortch with 10 points each.

Ball State 74, Buffalo 60

CLEVELAND — No. 5 Ball State used a strong performance from the free-throw line to defeat the No. 4 Buffalo Bulls in the third round of the MAC Tournament on Thursday, 74-60.

Ball State finished with three players in double-figures. Nathalie Fontaine led the Cardinals with a game-high 17 points, followed by Shelbie Justice with 15 points and Brandy Woody with 14.

Margeaux Gupilan led the Bulls with 14 points, Kristen Sharkey and Alexus Malone had 11 each, and Mackenzie Loesing finished with 10 points.
