Record-Courier staff report
Four boys basketball players from Portage County-area schools received Associated Press all-state honors in Divisions III and IV on Tuesday.
The only area athlete to be named to the Division III team was Garfield 6-foot-4 senior Anthony Workman, who was a Special Mention selection.
In Division IV, a pair of Windham Bombers and a Mogadore Wildcat received all-state honors.
For the Bombers, 6-2 junior Parker Rickey was a Special Mention selection, while teammate Jarod Taylor (5-9 senior) and Mogadore senior Casey Ruppel (6-2) were named Honorable Mention.
Rickey and Taylor led the Bombers to a 18-6 overall record and 12-2 finish playing in their first season in the Northeastern Athletic Conference, one game behind NAC champion Cortland Maplewood. The Bombers eventually lost in overtime 77-76 to Maplewood in the Division IV district semifinals.
Ruppel, meanwhile, was a veteran leader for a young Mogadore team that won 14 consecutive games until dropping a 55-52 decision to Garfield Heights Trinity in the Division IV district semifinals.
Mogadore finished 19-6 overall and 10-2 in the Portage Trail Conference County Division, good for second place by one game behind Streetsboro.
