The Ohio Bobcats shot an impressive 55.6 percent from the floor on Wednesday night, but it was not enough to top VMI in a quarterfinal game of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament, losing 92-90 at the Convocation Center in Athens to the Keydets.
The Bobcats had previously defeated Cleveland State and Wright State to advance in the postseason tourney.
In Wednesday's game, the host Bobcats also had fewer turnovers and more assists than VMI, but still could not get over the hump.
The difference in the game came to the free-throw line, where the Keydets were 21-of-25 against Ohio's 11-of-16.
VMI (22-12) guard Rodney Glasgow led his team with 30 points, while forward D.J. Covington added 29 points and 11 rebounds.
Ohio's Nick Kellogg matched Glasgow point for point and finished with 30 of his own, while Bobcats (25-12) forward Maurice Ndour had 26 points on 12-of-13 shooting from the floor.
VMI was leading 92-87, when Kellogg hit a 3-pointer as time expired in the game.
