AKRON -- The Akron RubberDucks split Wednesday's doubleheader with the Trenton Thunder at Canal Park, winning the first game 4-3 with the help of some timely hits and solid bullpen work. In the second game, Trenton starter Zach Nuding held Akron to two hits in a 1-0 win, allowing Trenton to take the three-game series, two games to one.

In the first game, Akron fell behind 1-0 in the top of the third inning, then responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Outfielder Tyler Naquin dropped a bunt single, followed by a Francisco Lindor walk before an RBI double to right field by infielder Joe Wendle scored Naquin and sent Lindor to third. A sacrifice fly by designated hitter Bryson Myles scored Lindor to give Akron the 2-1 lead.

Trenton tied it in the fourth, but Akron regained the lead 3-2 on a sharp Lindor single, which scored outfielder Jordan Smith.

Akron made it 4-2 in the fifth on first baseman's Jake Lowery sacrifice fly.

Trenton cut the lead to 4-3 in the top of the seventh but got no closer.

In game two of the twinbill, Trenton's Rob Refsnyder launched a first-pitch homer to left field in the top of the second to score the lone run of the game.

Trenton starter Zach Nuding (1-0) recorded his first win of the season after retiring 10 straight batters over the last four innings. During his full seven innings of work, Nuding gave up two hits and one walk while striking out five batters. He threw a total of 94 pitches, 62 of which were strikes.
