BOWIE, Md. -- Third baseman Giovanny Urshela came through with a two-out, two-run single in the top of the eighth inning to erase a 2-1 deficit and lift the Akron RubberDucks to a 3-2 victory over the Bowie Baysox on Thursday night.
Akron had taken a 1-0 lead in the fourth on a two-out RBI double by catcher Tony Wolters, only to see the Baysox rally to take the lead with two outs in the bottom of the sixth.
The decisive Akron eighth began when right fielder Jordan Smith led off with a double to centerfield. After centerfielder Tyler Naquin struck out swinging and shortstop Francisco Lindor walked, the runners moved up a base on second baseman Joe Wendle's groundout.
Urshela then stepped to the plate and delivered a bases-clearing double to centerfield for what proved to be the game-winner.
Starter Will Roberts (2-1) got the win on the mound for the RubberDucks, allowing two runs (both earned) on six hits, two walks and three strikeouts in seven innings of work.
