Kent State finds itself atop the team leaderboard after the first day of the Mid-American Conference championship tournament, while the top three individual scores belong to the Golden Flashes.
After two rounds of play on Friday at the Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Ind., KSU holds first place with a score of 6-under. Akron is currently in second place at 1-under, while Toledo (3-over) is in third.
Kent State surged to the lead after shooting a 286 and 284 in the first and second rounds, respectively.
Corey Conners leads all individuals at 5-under, while he is followed by teammates Taylor Pendrith at 3-under and Kyle Kmiecik at even-par amongst the MAC field.
"What a great second round for Corey Conners, with two birdies at the end and a bunch of great shots, including a 15-footer for eagle at the par-5 third hole," said Kent State head coach Herb Page. "And it was pretty much the same day most of the way for Taylor Pendrith, who had it to 5-under and then uncharacteristically let it slip away a little bit at the end."
Kent State is seeking its sixth straight outright MAC title, which would be a new first for the conference.
"These things are hard to win," said Page. "The good news is we had a Jekyll-and-Hyde day out there, and still we have a five-shot lead."
