Kent State pitchers Emma Johnson, Ronnie Ladines earn All-MAC honors

Kent State pitchers Emma Johnson and Ronnie Ladines earned Mid-American Conference postseason honors, as Johnson was named Second Team All-MAC and Ladines was named to the All-Freshman Team.

Johnson earned all-league honors for the third time in as many seasons after being named Pitcher of the Year in 2013 and Second Team All-MAC in 2012.

Johnson went 7-3 with a 2.45 ERA and 511⁄3 innings pitched against MAC foes during the regular season. She made 10 appearances and threw five complete games and three shutouts in eight starts, which included a no-hitter against Toledo on April 18. She enters the MAC Tournament with a 14-9 record, 2.16 ERA and 154 strikeouts over 1322⁄3 innings of action. She has four victories over top 50 RPI teams, including a one-hit shutout of Kentucky on Feb. 22.

Ladines went 3-3 with a 2.04 ERA while pitching 48 innings in league play. She made eight starts and threw five completes with one shutout. In addition to having the lowest ERA among conference freshmen, Ladines led the MAC in strikeouts-to-walks ratio with 45 strikeouts and only five walks. On the season, Ladines is 6-6 with a 2.36 ERA and 85 strikeouts over 92 innings. She has thrown eight complete games in 14 starts.

The fourth-seeded Golden Flashes open the MAC Tournament against fifth-seeded Ohio today at 11 a.m.
