Record-Courier staff report
The Norton Panthers cruised through the Portage Trail Conference boys tennis season, along with a dominating performance at the league championship tournament, on their way to a championship season.
Norton was unbeaten in league play, posting a 12-0 record, then bested all teams to take first place at the tournament.
Led by Player of the Year Justin Csepe at First Singles, the Panthers authored one of the greatest seasons in school history. For the season, the Panthers finished 14-2.
For the team's success, Norton head coach Phil Seenes was awarded the Coach of the Year honor in a vote by his peers.
No other First Singles player in the PTC was able to get to Csepe this season. He was undefeated throughout the regular season, then pushed through the tourney unscathed to capture the title.
Naturally, Csepe led the First-Team selections on the All-PTC team, but was joined by in First Singles by junior Milan Jevric.
In doubles play, Norton's Jovan Jevric and Randy Roland, along with Matt Hlas and Nick Milich both were recognized on the First Team.
In total, only two tennis players on the First Team were not from Norton: Crestwood First Singles standout Justin Vaughan and Kent Roosevelt First Singles standout Ethan Jones.
Vaughan finished the season with a 9-3 record and lost to Csepe in the finals round of the PTC Tournament.
The doubles teams of Jevric and Roland, along with Hlas and Milich both went unbeaten through league play.
