Akron RubberDucks pound out 15-10 win over Reading Phillies

READING, Pa. — Former Kent State star Anthony Gallas drove in four runs and Joe Wendle went 4-for-6 and as the Akron RubberDucks pounded out a 15-10 win over the Reading Phillies on Tuesday night.

The Ducks struck first in the top of the first inning on an RBI double by Wendle followed by a two-run double by Gallas for a quick 3-0 lead.

Reading scored two in the bottom of the second and three more in the third to take a 5-3 lead, but Akron tied the game 5-5 in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Jake Lowery and a solo home run by Ronny Rodriguez.

The Ducks went up 7-5 in the fifth on an RBI single by Gallas and a fielding error, but Reading came back to tie the game in the bottom of the inning.

Once again Akron answered quickly, scoring two runs in the sixth on an RBI double by Jordan Smith and run-scoring groundout by Tyler Naquin to lead 9-7.

The Ducks then began to pull away with single runs in the seventh and eighth on an RBI double by Rodriguez and a sac fly by Gallas, respectively, to push the lead to 11-7.

Reading closed to 11-8 in the bottom of the eighth, but Akron put the game away with four runs in the top of the ninth on an RBI single by Smith, RBI single by Francisco Lindor and two-run triple by Wendle.
