The weather was the victor in the Northern Ohio PGA Kenny Novak qualifier at Windmill Lakes Golf Course on Wednesday.
Three divisions needed to use a nine-hole round for their final score and the Boys 13 to 15 Divison concluded play after an hour delay as thunderstorms traveled across Portage County.
Junior golfers were patient, though, as they ignored the humid temperatures to finish the round.
Herb Page, with mud-soaked pants after helping to bring junior golfers off the course, commented on the determination of the junior players.
"We are going to finish the tournament," said Page, who consulted with Craig Blike of the Northern Ohio PGA.
By the end of the day, winners and qualifiers were crowned.
BOYS 13 TO 15
The only division to complete 18 holes was the Boys 13 to 15 Division.
Champion of the division was Jared Wilson of Columbiana, who qualified for next month's Kenny Novak Championship with a final score of 5-over-par (75).
John Burns of Aurora tied for fifth place with a 10 over-par 80, with Paul Harris of Avena firing an 81 -- good for eighth place.
Local golfers in the division included Deerfield's Floyd Radcliff, tied for 12th, Matthew Maselli of Aurora, tied for 29th, and Kyle Smith finishing with a final score of 99 for 24th place out of the 31 golfers.
GIRLS 13 TO 15
Chloe Wise of Kent was the lone representative of Portage County in the girls 13 to 15 age division.
One hole kept Wise from a solid score as she struggled to complete a sand shot, but her overall final score of 51 was good for ninth place in the event.
Jacinta Pikunas of Boardman was the best on the links in her division, firing an even-par 35 to win by six strokes over Katie McCarthy of Westlake.
BOYS AND GIRLS 11-12
Andrew Dauk of Massillon fired a 43 for nine holes and Ashley Au of Westerville carded a final 50 to lead the youngest two age divisions.
Daren Hudak of Tallmadge tied for third with a final score of 47, just four strokes off the pace set by the winner.
Kenny Novak qualifiers will continue through July 18 with the next event at The Country Club of Hudson today and Tannenhauf Golf Course in Alliance on Friday.
