Harrisburg Senators down Akron RubberDucks 7-5 in series finale

Record-Courier staff report Published:

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Harrisburg's Matt Skole hit a two-run double during a three-run seventh-inning rally Sunday as the Senators came from behind to beat the Akron RubberDucks 7-5 in the finale of a three-game series at Metro Bank Park.

It was also the final game of a six-game road trip for the RubberDucks (44-32). Although they lost 2-of-3 against Harrisburg, the RubberDucks finished the trip 4-2 overall. Akron's lead in the EL West also took a hit Sunday as Richmond defeated Erie 7-3 to pull to within a half-game of first-place Akron.

In a game that featured four lead changes, the RubberDucks held a 4-3 lead going to the seventh, but the Senators (30-43) rallied against righthander Toru Murata (5-3). With one out, Wilson Ramos and Cutter Dykstra each singled. Skole then followed with a gapper to left-center to score both runs and make it 5-4. Skole later scored on a single by Caleb Ramsey to make it 6-4.

After the Ducks pulled to within 6-5 on a sacrifice fly by former Kent State star Anthony Gallas in the eighth, the Senators scored an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth when Michael Taylor scored on a wild pitch. Before that, Taylor stole third base on a close play. Akron manager David Wallace argued that Taylor should have been called out and was ejected by third-base umpire Junior Valentine.

Harrisburg closer Tyler Herron pitched the final two innings to earn his third save. He stranded two runners on base in the ninth. Bryan Harper (1-0) pitched two-thirds of an inning in the seventh to earn his first AA win.
