AKRON -- The Akron RubberDucks broke a season-high four-game losing streak Sunday afternoon on the back of starting pitcher Gabriel Arias as they cruised to a 7-2 victory over the Bowie Baysox at Canal Park.
Arias threw a season-high 100 pitches in his eight innings on the mound. Arias (7-2) held Bowie to five hits and allowed two runs, both of which came on solo homers in the first and seventh innings. The homers were clubbed by Baysox right-fielder K.D. Kang and second baseman David Adams. He issued a single walk and fanned four.
While Arias took care of the defense, Ollie Linton led the RubberDucks offense by smacking a triple off the center field wall to lead off the bottom of the first inning. Francisco Lindor drove Linton home on a double down the left-field line to knot the game at 1-1 early.
Former Kent State star Anthony Gallas kicked off the fourth inning with a line-drive solo homer over the left-field wall to seal a 10-game hitting streak. It was his fifth homer of the season, all of which are solo home runs. Linton would strike again later in the frame with a two-run single that put the RubberDucks ahead 4-1.
Adams clubbed his solo homer in the seventh to make it a two-run game at 4-2.
Akron piled on three more runs in the bottom of the eighth to add extra insurance when Ronny Rodriguez slapped an RBI single and Bryan LaHair parked a two-run homer over the right-center field wall, handing the RubberDucks a 7-2 win.
Shawn Armstrong took to the mound to relieve Arias for the final inning. The righty allowed one hit and struck out one.
Bowie starter Tim Berry (4-5, 1 BB, 4 SO, 1 HR) took the loss after allowing four runs and nine of Akron's 13 hits.
