NBA Roundup (July 12): Cavaliers acquire Brendan Haywood, Dwight Powell in trade with Hornets

Associated Press Published:

CLEVELAND -- The Cavaliers have acquired center Brendan Haywood and forward Dwight Powell from Charlotte for guard Scotty Hopson and cash considerations.

The Cavs announced the move Saturday, one day after LeBron James said he's returning to Cleveland.

A 12-year veteran, Haywood has played in 794 NBA games, averaging 6.9 points and 6.1 rebounds. He missed all of last season with a broken foot.

The 7-footer gives Cleveland some front line depth, but he's also only got one year left on his contract. Haywood, who played on Dallas' 2011 title team, was picked by Cleveland with the 20th overall pick in 2001, but traded on draft night to Orlando.

Gasol announced on his verified Twitter account on Saturday that he was looking forward to the "new chapter" of his career in Chicago. He says the choice wasn't easy and he decided on the Bulls "after meditating a lot."

Sources: Rockets sending Lin to Lakers

Jeremy Lin is still on his way to the Los Angeles Lakers, even after the Houston Rockets failed to land coveted forward Chris Bosh in free agency.

Two people with knowledge of the deal tell The Associated Press that the Rockets still plan to execute the trade that will send the point guard to Los Angeles for cash considerations. The people requested anonymity because the trade has not been officially announced.
