Manziel endures day of rookie mistakes at Browns camp

BEREA — A look at Browns rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel’s day at training camp:

JOHNNY’S STRUGGLES: Manziel continues to search for some level of consistency at training camp. He was not on target with many of his throws, struggling in 11-on-11 drills. Manziel was picked off multiple times, including a pass that sailed above wide receiver Anthony Armstrong’s head and was intercepted by Jordan Poyer.
THE RACE TO START: Manziel is in a competition with Brian Hoyer for the starting quarterback job, but neither looked particularly sharp Tuesday. While Hoyer seems to have a better grasp of the offense overall, Manziel missed an opportunity to close the gap between the two.
AGGIE FAITHFUL?: Who knew Texas A&M had such a large fan base in Northeast Ohio? A look down the sideline at Browns camp found not only plenty of Manziel jerseys, but also a wide variety of Aggie shirts and hats. Texas A&M is, of course, Manziel’s alma mater.
TALKING JOHNNY: Browns coach Mike Pettine wasn’t ready to voice any concern about the interceptions being thrown by his quarterbacks.

“I don’t react to that because I want to know the why,” Pettine said. “Was it the DB just made a heck of a play or was it a misread by the quarterback? Was it a bad throw, was it a missed route by a receiver? I don’t want to react to much as far as the actual content of the plays until I get a chance to study it on tape.”
